Before capable cameras arrived in ordinary phones, making video content required equipment that was genuinely out of reach for most people interested in trying it, a habit worth building sooner rather than later, which tends to matter more than it first seems, especially once the work starts to feel routine, which holds true across most niches.

As phone cameras improved considerably and became widely affordable, the barrier to entry for creating content dropped dramatically, opening the field to a far wider and more diverse range of new creators, even for creators who have been at this for years, a small shift that adds up over a long career.

This shift is a key reason the modern creator economy looks so different from earlier eras of media, which depended heavily on expensive, specialised equipment, which is truer the longer you keep at it, particularly when the workload starts to pile up, even when the temptation to skip it is strong.
