Payment terms, including when and how a creator actually gets paid, deserve just as much attention as the headline fee itself, since a large number delayed for months can create genuine cash flow problems, even during a genuinely busy week, which is easy to overlook when things feel hectic.

Ask clearly about payment timelines before agreeing to any work, and do not assume standard terms apply, since these vary considerably between different brands and agencies, particularly for anyone still finding their footing, even if progress feels slow at first, a habit worth building sooner rather than later, which becomes second nature after enough repetition.

Proposing a portion upfront for larger projects is a reasonable, common request, and most established brands will not be surprised by a creator asking for it, which tends to matter more than it first seems, especially once the work starts to feel routine, even for creators who have been at this for years.
