Running a competition or giveaway comes with its own set of general expectations around fairness, clear terms and honest, transparent communication with every single entrant who chooses to take part, a small shift that adds up over a long career, which is truer the longer you keep at it, a small shift that changes how the work feels.

Clearly stating the rules, the genuine odds where relevant, and exactly how and when a winner will be chosen protects both the creator and their audience from any later confusion or dispute, particularly when the workload starts to pile up, even when the temptation to skip it is strong.

Partnering with a brand on a giveaway also requires the same clear disclosure expected of any other sponsored content, since a giveaway is still fundamentally a form of paid promotion, a lesson that usually arrives through direct experience, which rarely feels urgent until it suddenly does, even for creators with years of experience.
