A negative comment can feel disproportionately large in the moment it is first read, even when it represents a tiny fraction of an otherwise genuinely positive overall response from a much wider audience. Keeping this basic proportion in mind helps a creator respond, or choose not to respond, from a calmer place.

Decide in advance roughly how you plan to handle different kinds of negative comments, since having a general approach ready removes the pressure of improvising an emotional response in the heat of a genuinely difficult moment, particularly when the workload starts to pile up, even when the temptation to skip it is strong.

Not every negative comment deserves a reply, and choosing silence is a perfectly legitimate response in many cases. Protecting your own energy sometimes matters more than winning an argument with a stranger who was never truly open to changing their mind anyway, a lesson that usually arrives through direct experience.
