Copyright automatically protects original creative work the moment it is genuinely made, without requiring any formal registration process to take effect, and understanding this basic principle helps a creator both protect their own work properly and respect the work of other creators appropriately in return, without any confusion.
Using someone else's image, music or footage generally requires permission or a proper licence, even when the material is easy to find and download online without much effort, because availability online does not equal permission to use it freely inside your own content without asking first.
When in doubt about a specific piece of material, the safest approach is to seek out clearly licensed alternatives or create original material of your own instead, since this avoids uncertainty and protects a creator from a genuinely avoidable dispute further down the line, which becomes obvious only in hindsight.
Keep simple records of where any external material used in your content actually came from originally, since a brief note made at the time of creation is far easier to manage than trying to reconstruct that same information much later, often under real pressure, even if the benefit is not immediately visible.
