Fair use, in general terms, allows limited use of copyrighted material without permission in certain specific circumstances, such as genuine commentary, criticism or clearly transformative work, though the exact boundaries can be genuinely difficult to judge with real confidence, even if progress feels slow at first, a point that becomes clearer with practice.
Because these boundaries are rarely perfectly clear cut, relying on fair use as a primary content strategy is considerably riskier than seeking proper permission or using clearly licensed material from the very start of a project, a habit worth building sooner rather than later, which tends to matter more than it first seems.
When genuinely uncertain whether a specific use might qualify, the safer and more sustainable approach is generally to seek permission, use licensed alternatives, or simply create original material of your own instead, especially once the work starts to feel routine, even for creators who have been at this for years.
