Music does more than set a mood in video content, since its tempo and rhythm directly shape how fast or slow a piece feels to a viewer, even when the visual cuts stay exactly the same, especially once the novelty of starting out wears off, especially in the early stages of a creator's journey.
Matching music tempo to editing rhythm creates a cohesive feel, while a mismatch between fast cuts and slow music, or the reverse, can leave a piece feeling subtly uncomfortable to watch, even when it feels like a minor detail at the time, particularly once an audience starts to grow, a habit that quietly protects a longer career.
Use music deliberately rather than as background filler, choosing a track specifically for the pace it creates, not only for how it sounds in isolation away from the footage, which becomes obvious only in hindsight, even if the benefit is not immediately visible, something that becomes second nature with enough practice.
